Join Rachael on Sunday, June 20th at 9:30am at the gorgeous setting of Balderdash Cellars, overlooking Richmond Pond - for this very special yogic tradition of 108 Sun Salutations.

The Summer Solstice marks the change of seasons, the first day of summer and the longest day of the year -  a time of honoring the earth and the sun’s blessing of warmth and light!

This will be a wonderful opportunity to reflect, set intentions, release anything that is no longer serving you, make space to invite in all that your heart desires.

The 108 Sun Salutations will be divided into 4 sets of 27 - with a rest in childs pose and guided meditation between sets. No need to count or keep track - we will do that for you. While we will plan on 2 hours, it may take more or less time, depending on the rhythm we fall into together.

All are welcome and modifications will be offered for every level. Options for full sun salutations, modified, half and meditative salutes will be provided so that you can practice at your own level and pace, wherever you are in this moving meditation practice.

Location: Balderdash Cellars (81 State Rd. Richmond) located on Route 41. Pull into the large parking area and park wherever you would like. You'll see us set up behind the building, overlooking Richmond Shores.

  • Pre-registration and pre-payment online is required to allow for a "touch-free" sign-in process
  • Please remain a socially distant 6' apart from others, if unmasked.
  • Instructor will check you in on their phone or tablet upon your arrival. Just give your name!
  • Please bring your own mat and a blanket or towel for underneath (if you'd like)


What is the importance of the number 108?

The number 108 holds deep significance in the Hindu and yoga communities. There are 108 pithas (sacred sites) through India. There are 108 Upanishads (ancient texts). There are 108 marmas (pressure points) and 108 nadis (energy lines) in the body. This number also connects the Sun, Moon, and Earth as the average distance of the Sun and the Moon to the Earth is 108 times their respective diameters. The numbers 108 all added together equals 9, which is the number of universal love.

Why do we do 108 Sun Salutations?

During the Summer and Winter Solstice and the Spring and Fall Equinox yogis around the world often devote the time and effort to the yogic tradition of practicing 108 sun salutations.

The reasoning behind the 108 Sun Salutations is that it is believed that fire (tapas or internal heat) that you build during this practice is cleansing, detoxifying, and gets you more in touch with yourself.

Upon completion you will feel lighter, more present, refreshed, renewed and at peace!

About the Instructor:
Rachael Plaine (Owner / Yoga / Zumba)
Rachael has always had a passion for dance and movement which led her to receive a B.A. in Dance from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst, where she took her very first yoga class. In 2010 she became a licensed Zumba Instructor, in 2011 she received her Kripalu Yoga Teacher certification and she has been teaching Zumba and Yoga throughout the county ever since! Over the years she has also completed programs in Thai Yoga Massage, Prenatal Yoga and Children’s Yoga. Her love for movement has carried her through the roller coaster of life and continues to help her to grow, learn, love and find peace and gratitude in every moment. When she’s not in the studio, you can find her spending time with her family, her daughter Iyla and their dog Samba - enjoying the beautiful Berkshires. Rachael feels truly blessed to create work that she is passionate about and looks forward to sharing her love for yoga, dance and fitness with you, while “Finding Joy Through Movement” one moment…one breath at a time!
